Terfel & Mozart

A propósito de Tutto Mozart! (a que aqui fiz vénias mil), diz-nos o Telegraph:

"Tutto Mozart!
Bryn Terfel (bass-baritone), with Miah Persson (soprano), Christine Rice (mezzo), Scottish Chamber Orchestra, cond Sir Charles Mackerras
DG 00289 477 5886, £13.99

Taking time out from his Wagner forays, Bryn Terfel joins the Mozart celebrations with a recital that includes not only his signature roles ? Figaro, Leporello, Don Giovanni, Guglielmo ? but also several he has not yet sung on stage.

Terfel's physique will probably always deter him from doing Papageno in the theatre. But he sings the birdcatcher's songs with mingled robustness and breezy charm ? and just the right hint of pathos. Moving up the social scale in Figaro, his Count is suave, sexy (in the duet with Miah Persson's Susanna) and, in the big aria "Vedrò, mentr'io sospiro", truly dangerous. And is there another Wotan who could despatch the volley of triplets at the end with such panache?

The range of colours in Terfel's voice remains astonishing
The range of colours in Terfel's voice ? a one-man bass-baritone orchestra ? remains astonishing. His Count, Giovanni, Leporello (a sly and salacious "Catalogue Aria") and Figaro (more hard-bitten than most) are all marvellously vivid, distinctive personalities. The Mozart soprano-of-the-moment, Miah Persson, makes an enchanting accomplice in various duets, and Mackerras's accompaniments are models of style and point. A clutch of rarities, including a comic "cat duet" ? "Nun, liebes Weibchen", not by Mozart at all but by his first Tamino, Benedickt Schack ? complete a charismatic recital. "
